Juvenile

It is well known that a juvenile is not tried in the same manner as an adult.  His or her record is sealed upon becoming an adult, but what does that mean to the child? Doesn't his experience in the court system affect him regardless?

I have handled numerous cases involving juveniles, and my experience is that none comes out the same as when he entered the system.  My goal is always to ensure that the experience be one that helps the child, and ensures that his or her mistake does not change him for the worse.

The system is set up in such a way that through rehabilitation we can lead the child to become a positive member of society.  That is not to say that the consequences may not be very serious depending upon the seriousness of the crime, and the background of the offender.  The consequences can include fines, treatment programs, detention, home arrest (electronic monitoring), formal/informal probation, community service, and incarceration.

In the case of very serious crimes even a person under the age of 18 may be tried as an adult.  This decision is up to the judge and prosecutor.  If you choose to hire an attorney for such a case, be sure it is one who is experienced in the special rules and procedures of the juvenile justice system.
